Cambodia is an excellent country to explore by bicycle. From scenic highways and backroads to offroad trails and countryside paths, the country offers cyclists unlimited opportunity for traveling through interesting and beautiful scenery and locales in getting from one place to another. Bicycle is Cambodia's most popular means of transport in rural areas and bicycle repair stands are never far in between. While some of the busy highways in Cambodia may be better avoided, there are numerous backroads and scenic highways that offer a wonderful experience to cyclists and serve as an alternate means to getting from one place to another. Cambodia Cycling Advice

• Avoid the main highways. Travel along backroads. They are safer, more scenic and less crowded. There is more bicycle traffic on back roads and more car traffic on main highways.
• Avoid the highway (Route 4a) between Phnom Penh and Skuon. It is narrow and crowded and dusty. Take the riverside backroad on the east side of the Mekong instead or travel by boat to Kompong Cham, then connect from Kompong Cham to Siem Reap.
• If going to Sihanoukville, take the scenic backroad via Kep, Kampot and along the coast rather than the main highway (route 4) to Sihanoukviller. It is longer, but more pleasant. There is less traffic and more sights along the way.
