A trekking trip deep into the jungles and highlands of remote Virachey National Park in Cambodia's wild Northeast. This region is home to a diverse range of wildlife and the trek passes through one of the most remote regions of Cambodia, including dense primary forests, mountains and grassland plateaus hidden deep in the jungle.

Highlights: Wildlife (many species inhabit the areas this trek passes through), mountains, views, jungle, rivers and streams, grasslands, hill tribes.

Location: Central Virachey National Park, Northern Ratanakiri Province.

Accommodation: 5 nights camping, 2 nights in village houses.

Virachey Deep Jungle Trek Itinerary

Note: An entire trip (including dolphins trip on the Mekong) can be done in 11 days from Phnom Penh.

Day 1: Travel by road from Banlung to Ta Veng (1.5 hours). Travel by boat down along the Se San to an ethnic Brau tribal village (30 minutes). Spend the evening in the village and stay overnight with a homestay family. Travel time approx. 2 hours (road and river) plus time to organize boat.

Day 2-3: Trek a gradual ascent through the jungle, up river valleys and over small mountains en route to the center of Virachey National Park. Camp en route.

Day 4-5: Continue the trek, ascending over 500 meters until arriving at Phnom Veal Thom, a large mountain-top grassland at the center of the park. Allow for a full day to explore the grasslands and look for wildlife. Camp.

Day 6-7: Return through the jungle via a different route. Camp en route. Sleep night seven at a local Brau hill tribe village on the banks of the Se San River.

Day 8: Travel by boat up the Se San River (3-4 hours) to Ta Veng. Enjoy lunch in Ta Veng, then return by road to Banlung (1.5 hours).
