Mekong Kayaking Adventure Itinerary

Day 1 Depart Phnom Penh by private car to Stung Treng. In the afternoon, we will kayak across the Sekong River and visit an ethnic Lao village where bamboo sticky rice is made. Afterwards, we will kayak down the Sekong, enjoying a superb view of sunset over the rivers. Overnight at a riverside hotel.

Day 2 Transfer by car to a small village on the Mekong River near the Laos border. From there we will begin a kayaking trip down river through remote flooded forests of Cambodia's amazing and unique Ramsar Wetlands. A boat will provide backup. We will see an abundance of birdlife as we kayak. We will return to our Stung Treng accommodations in the late afternoon.

Day 3 Leave Stung Treng by bicycle along a scenic river route, passing through villages and having opportunities to visit a temple, a school and scenic river views. After 25 km of cycling, we will board kayaks and begin kayaking down river, stopping at sandy islands and watching for rare Mekong River Dolphins. After lunch at a deep dolphin pool, transfer by car to Kratie, arriving in time for sunset over the Mekong. Overnight at a riverside hotel.

Day 4 Transfer by car to the Mekong River north of Phnom Penh and board a ferry boat to cross to the Silk Islands. Enjoy a picnic and swim at a sandy beach on the tip of the northern-most island and make numerous excursions on the islands including visits to an island pagoda, local silk weaving communities, farms, villages and schools as we cycle across two islands. From the quiet east bank of the Mekong, we will continue cycling along a quiet route along the Mekong before arriving directly across the river from Phnom Penh. Here we will cross by ferry through the "Four Rivers," where the Mekong and Tonle Sap cross, and then transfer by tuk-tuk or car to your Phnom Penh accommodations. Cycling: 25 km.
