REMOTE TEMPLES DIRTBIKE TRIP 2

9 days: Phnom Penh - Sambor Prei Kuk - Tbeng Meanchey - Koh Ker - Beng Mealea - Siem Reap - Angkor - Tonle Sap Lake - Phnom Penh

This dirtbike tour begins by boat leaving from Phnom Penh to the quiet and scenic dirt roads of the East bank of the Mekong. After following the river North, we cut through the rubber plantations of Kompong Cham and head to the ancient jungle city of Sambor Prei Kuk, older than Angkor. From there, continue through the jungles to the pyramid of Koh Ker, the magnificent cliff-top temple of Preah Vihear and the former Khmer Rouge stronghold of Anlong Veng. We also hike up a mountain to the River of a Thousand Lingas. Emerge from the jungles in Siem Reap for a tour of Cambodia's most well known temples including Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, Bayon and more before returning to Phnom Penh by boat on the great Tonle Sap Lake (the bikes get shipped).

Day 1 Arrive in Phnom Penh. Transfer from the airport to your hotel. Overnight in Phnom Penh at a comfortable riverside hotel.

Day 2 Depart Phnom Penh with your bike by ferry boat across the Mekong, then travel north along a quiet dirt road following the river to Kompong Cham, stopping en route to visit the twin mountain temples of Kompong Cham province. Overnight at a riverside hotel in Kompong Cham town.

Day 3 Depart Kompong Cham early via a small dirt road crossing through French era rubber plantations and then on to Sombor Prei Kuk, a complex of over 100 pre-Angkorian temples hidden in dense forest. After exploring the site, continue along the trail north to Tbeng Meanchey town where you will sleep the night in a comfortable hotel.

Day 4 Depart Tbeng Meachey along dirt roads to the remote pyramid temple of Koh Ker. After exploring, continue on to Preah Vihear, one of Cambodia's most impressive temples located on the edge of a cliff face. Overnight at a simple guesthouse at the base of the mountain.

Day 5 Continue along the southern base of the Dangrek Escarpment to Anlong Veng town, the former Khmer Rouge stronghold. Enjoy lunch in town and visit the Ta Mok villa before continuing south to Siem Reap. Overnight at a comfortable hotel with swimming pool.

Day 6 Depart early on bike to the pink sandstone temple of Banteay Srei, then hike 45 minutes along a jungle-clad mountain path to the River of a Thousand Lingas, Kbal Spean, where a clear stream ripples through ancient carvings before dropping in a pretty waterfall. Return to Siem Reap for a late lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the town. Overnight at a comfortable hotel with swimming pool.

Day 7 Explore the main temples of Angkor Archeological Park by tuk-tuk with a specialist guide, including Angkor Wat, Bayon, the Terraces of Elephants and the Leper King and Ta Prohm. Overnight at a comfortable hotel with swimming pool.

Day 8 Return to Phnom Penh by Boat via the Tonle Sap Lake (the bikes will be shipped). Overnight in Phnom Penh at a comfortable riverside hotel.

Day 9 Transfer by car to the airport, your onward location or continue your trip in Cambodia.
