Virachey Trek and Kayak

A trekking trip through the remote Virachey National Park in Cambodia's wild Northeast. This trek includes traveling by boat up the scenic Tonle San River, trekking through dense jungle, passing along a remote section of the Ho Chi Minh Trail and kayaking down a jungle stream.

Activities: Trekking, Kayaking, Boat Travel Location: East Virachey National Park, Northern Ratanakiri Province.

Accommodation: 1 night camping, 2 nights in village houses.

Virachey Trek and Kayak Itinerary

Note: An entire trip (including dolphins trip on the Mekong) can be done in 7 days from Phnom Penh.

Day 1 Travel by road from Banlung to Ta Veng (1.5 hours). Travel by boat upriver along the Se San to Phum Yorn Village, an ethnic Brau tribal village on the edge of Virachey National Park (4 hours). Spend the evening in the village and sleep at a village house. Travel time approx. 5.5 hours (road and river).

Day 2 Trek into the park via a route ascending Mt. Meive, offering scenic views and then follow the O'Lapeung Valley to a riverside campsite on the O'Tabok Stream. Total trekking time approx. 6 hours.

Day 3 Return to Phum Yorn Village via the Ho Chi Minh Trail, viewing war relics and wildlife along the way. Enjoy swimming, village hospitality back at the village. Total trekking time approx. 6 hours.

Day 4 Travel down the O'Tabok Stream via inflatable kayak to the confluence with the Se San River. Enjoy lunch in a local village, then continue by river and road to Banlung. Paddling time approx. 5 hours. Travel time approx. 2.5 hours.
