November 4-7: Mekong River Journey

4 days - 3 nights Phnom Penh - Stung Treng - Flooded Forests - Dolphins Trail - Kratie - Silk Islands - Phnom Penh

Explore the Mekong River from the Laos border to Phnom Penh in a trip that takes you through the most remote and scenic stretches of the Mekong by Kayak, Bicycle and Cruise Boat.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 Depart either Stung Treng or the Laos border (pick up at either location) to a small village near the river border and begin a full-day kayaking trip down river through remote flooded forests of Cambodia's amazing Ramsar Wetlands. A boat will provide backup. Many varieties of birds live in these forests. Picnic lunch en route provided. Return to nature lodge in the evening.

Day 2 Enjoy a free day at the nature lodge. Explore the region on your own by mountain bike or kayak.

Day 3 Leave Stung Treng on Mountain Bike south along a scenic river route passing through small fishing and farming villages. After 25 km of cycling, board kayaks for a 3-hour trip down river, stopping along the way to rest at a sandy river island and looking out for the rare Mekong River Dolphins. After lunch, transfer by car to Kratie.

Day 4 Travel by private car from Kratie to the Mekong River north of the Silk Islands, then board a 2-deck cruise boat and begin cruising down river, stopping along the way for excursions on the islands, at a silk-weaving village and a pagoda. Enjoy a BBQ dinner and cold drinks as you watch the sunset over the Mekong and cruise into Phnom Penh.
